Spring is my absolute favorite time of year for family photography in Philadelphia and Chester County, PA. After long, unpredictable Northeast winters, there’s nothing more joyful than seeing green return to the trees and meadows. Blooming flowers bring life and color, and southeastern Pennsylvania is full of some of the most beautiful natural and curated gardens and open fields in the country—perfect backdrops for family and maternity photo sessions.

This week, everything is finally bursting into bloom after one of the longest winters we’ve had—the sweetest signs that we’ve turned a corner. That’s the part of spring I always come back to. It’s not just the blooms, or the way the landscape awakens again. It’s the way you feel lighter, the way your kids want to stay outside a little longer, and the way everything seems brighter and more alive in the warmth of the sunshine.

Every year, I think the season will never arrive—and then, in the blink of an eye, it’s gone. Flowering trees, the first hints of green, and early blooms appear for only a short window, and each year, it seems to pass faster than expected.

Here are some of my favorite spring photography locations in the Greater Philadelphia area, perfect for creating lasting memories:

Historic Sites & Natural Landscapes

Valley Forge National Historical Park, King of Prussia, PA

Cedar Hollow Preserve, Malvern, PA

A hidden gem where kids can run wild among spring buttercups. Quiet, peaceful, and perfect for capturing playful moments.

Tips for Booking Spring Sessions

  • Timing is Everything: Spring blooms don’t stick around long! Peak flowering usually lasts just two weeks, and while early to mid-April brings lots of blooms, many locations transition into summer flowers by mid-June. Cherry blossom lovers, take note: early booking and flexibility are key!

  • Styling for Spring Portraits: Soft pastels, creams, blues, and greens play beautifully with spring light. Light layers, flowing fabrics, and textures like denim or knits add interest without stealing the show from the scenery. Check my spring style guide for inspiration.

Final Thoughts

No matter your style, there’s a spring photography spot in Philadelphia or Chester County that’s perfect for your family. My goal is always to make your session fun, relaxed, and easy while capturing authentic, timeless moments you’ll cherish forever.
