Fall is one of the most beautiful times of year for family photography in Philadelphia and Chester County. With colorful foliage, golden fields, historic landmarks, and scenic trails, the Greater Philadelphia area offers countless beautiful settings for outdoor family and maternity photos. In this guide, I’m sharing some of my favorite fall photography locations, from Valley Forge and Phoenixville to farms, preserves, and lakeside spots throughout the area.

This will forever be one of my favorite locations for fall family photography near Philadelphia. Throughout the autumn season it is continually changing and gorgeous well into late November. From wildflowers in September, to silvery white fields in November, it never disappoints me, and it’s one of my favorite spots for family photography.
Cedar Hollow Preserve | Malvern, PA
A quiet alternative to Valley Forge, Cedar Hollow Preserve in Malvern is tucked away and peaceful. With mature trees, open meadows, and plenty of room for kids to explore, it's a beautiful choice for families looking for a more private, natural setting for their fall photos.
Brightside Farm Park | Malvern, PA
Brightside Farm Park is a quiet, peaceful location in Malvern with paved and mowed paths winding through open fields. The old farm buildings are visible in the distance, adding a lovely sense of place without distracting from your family. Washington's Headquarters at Valley Forge National Historical Park | King of Prussia, PA
Another favorite within Valley Forge, this spot offers so much variety—golden grasses, wooded trails, and even a historic train station. The Mill at Anselma | Chester Springs, PA
This historic mill and property in Chester Springs is such a hidden treasure! It's usually pretty quiet compared to some of the other locations and encapsulates the quintessential "fall" feeling. In addition to the mill & accompanying buildings, there are trails and a small pond to explore.

These dates always book quickly, so I recommend scheduling your session 6–8 weeks in advance. Keeping an eye on local foliage reports can also help you time it just right
